The Boatman

Lone is the boat
In the midst of the river.
Alone I stand
on the bank.
I want to go
To the other end,
But the boat
Will not come to me
‘sans’ a boatman.
So I build
A bridge of desire
Between me and the boat
And walk upon the bridge.
I keep on walking….
But I reach nowhere
And remain
Where I am.
O, I am helpless,
For I cannot reach the boat
Leave alone the other end!
O, where is the invisible boatman
I have ignored hitherto?

નાવ છે મઝધારમાં
ઊભો હું એકલો આ પાર. 
જવું મારે સામે પાર,
પણ નાવિક વિના
ક્યાંથી આવે નાવ
મારી પાસે?
તેથી બાંધ્યો મેં સેતુ
ઇચ્છા કેરો,
મારી અને નાવની વચ્ચે
અને માંડ્યો ડગ ભરવા એ સેતુ પર
ચાલતો રહું છું હું …
પણ પહોંચતો ક્યાંય નથી,
રહું છું ત્યાંનો ત્યાં!
અરે! ઊભો હું સાવ લાચાર
સામે પાર તો શું,
પહોંચી શકતો નથી નાવ સુધી પણ !
અરે! ક્યાં છે એ અજાણ્યો નાવિક
જેને મેં અવગણ્યો છે આજ લગી!
