I made an assignation with the night;
In the abyss was fixed our rendezvous:
In my breast carrying God’s deathless light
I came her dark and dangerous heart to woo.
I left the glory of the illuminated mind
And the calm rapture of the divinised soul
And traveled through a vastness dim and blind
To the gray shore where her ignorant waters roll.
I walk by the chill wave through the dull slime
And still that weary journeying knows no end;
Lost is the lustrous godhead beyond time,
There comes no voice of the celestial Friend,
And yet I know my footprints’ track shall be
A pathway towards immortality.

નિશા સહ સુયોજ્યું મેં મિલન; ખીણ પેટાળમાં
સુનિશ્ચિત કરાઈ તે મિલનકેરી ભૂમિ અમ:
અને અમર તે પ્રકાશ પ્રભુનો હું ધારી ઉરે
કરાળ તિમિરાળ એનું ઉર જીતવા સંચર્યો.

પ્રભામય મનસ્ તણા સકલ વૈભવોને તજી,
પ્રશાંત રસ દિવ્ય રૂપ થયલા તજી આત્મનો,
વિશાળ પટ ધૂસરા તિમિરના હું વીંધી પળ્યો
તટે ભુખર, જ્યાં જલો છલકી અજ્ઞ એનાં રહ્યાં.

હવાં વિરસ પંક ખૂંદત ભમું હું ટાઢાં જલો
સમીપ, પણ ના સમાપ્તિ ક્યહીં શુષ્ક યાત્રાની આ;
ત્રિકાલ-પર ઓસરી ય પ્રભુતા પ્રભા-સંભૃતા,
અને સ્વર ન દિવ્ય એ સુહૃદનો ય આવે લવ.

છતાં મન વિશે મને જ – પગલાંની કેડી મુજ
મહા સુપથ હા થવાની અમૃતત્વના ધામનો.
