The birds
sing in full flight
and in full flight they shit.
I stare at them,
and my gaze follows
until the string
my vision has given them ends.
How I would like to be a bird
and fly, fly, fly
and sing, sing, sing
and shit-with pleasure
on some people
and some
things!

ગળું ફુલાવી ને તાર:સ્વરે
કલરવે, કવે પંખીઓ મધુર;
ચરમ ઊડ્ડયન માંહિ એ રીતે
ચરકી ઊઠતાં –પિચ્છ જ્યમ ખરે!

પહોંચતી રહે દૃષ્યતંતુની
ઢીલ જ્યાં લગી, ત્યાં લગી સતત
નિહાળ્યા કરું અમીટ દૃષ્ટિથી
વિહગને જતાં ઓગળી ક્ષિતિજ.

હું ય ઈચ્છું કે પંખી થઈ શકું,
પંખી એક એવું કે જે કરે
ઉડ ઉડાઉડો, કલરવો; વળી
મુદિત મન ધરી ચરકી યે શકે
અકળ વ્યક્તિ પર, અકળ વસ્તુ પર-
“ગળું ફુલાવી ને તાર:સ્વરે!”
